Learn more about Algae Blooms - Lake Algae Symposium - April 9th

A Lake Algae Symposium will be held on Saturday, April 9, 10:00am  - 12:00 pm, in the Honeoye Central School Auditorium.

The Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Finger Lakes Community College's Muller Field Station, and Honeoye Valley Association will host a public outreach program focused on algae blooms and their ecological consequences to drinking water and recreation on Saturday, April 9, 2011 10:00am - 12:00pm.

The event is intended to be a proactive educational opportunity for homeowners and water users of Honeoye Lake and the remaining Finger Lakes to gain knowledge and understanding as the 2011 season approaches. The agenda for the day will include three speakers, Dr. Bruce Gilman (FLCC), Dr. Greg Boyer (SUNY ESF), and Jim Hyde (NYSDOH) presenting on the general background of algal blooms and types of algae; current research and what is known of the risk assessments for homeowners, businesses, and visitors; and the recommended treatment strategies and their effectiveness. The audience of this event will be home/cottage owners from the western Finger Lakes region, specifically Honeoye Lake.
